What's in a name?
What is a nyamera, and why did we adopt it as our name?

A type of antelope known as Topi, or Nyamera in Swahili, was one of our Founder’s favourite animals to view when he was fortunate enough to be on safari during his time living in Kenya. Duncan admired the way it would survey its surroundings by finding small bits of elevation, e.g. a termite mound. From this perspective it would be able to have a better perspective of opportunities and threats. Taking a step back and up is always important when taking decisions in international development, and this is a core ethos of what ‘Nyamera' brings to international development. In addition, Duncan’s surname is Hart, which is old English for a deer or stag, which gives extra significance for the name.
